LOVĆEN NATIONAL PARK

Kurt Hassert, a German geographer, wrote great words about the popular Lovcen vistas

“Montenegro laid before us as if on a relief map. Here the sun played with the breezy waves of the Boka, there the surface of Lake Skadar glittered, and the blue Adriatic disappeared on the horizon. The Albanian Alps and the coastal mountain Rumija rose in wild splendor. The eye wandered over the endless series of ranges and valleys, while in the background the snow-covered peaks of Durmitor and Komovo sent their last greetings. Podgorica rose from the green plain. I could hardly part with the powerful image. “

Legend has it that the Montenegrin king outsmarted the Turkish sultan by demanding freedom and independence for Montenegro. He explained to the sultan that Montenegro is all the territory seen from the top of Lovćen…
The Sultan, thinking that a large territory could not be seen from the top of that hill, made a promise to the Montenegrin king, and only later did he realize how he had outwitted him…
With this legend, the vistas from Lovcen can be depicted in a picturesque way… It is said that on clear nights you can also see the lights of Italy.
